At 4:54 a.m., officers were on patrol at Wallington Avenue and Lester Street when they observed a man, Rashon Johnson, who had been wanted for committed multiple motor vehicle burglaries in the region,  Wallington police said.

Johnson's hat and bike matched a previous description provided to police, they said. Johnson was ordered to stop, but refused and pedaled on his bicycle at a high rate of speed, police said.

Johnson sped toward police, who attempted to stop him by reaching for him, police said. Johnson attempted to maneuver around the officer, but then fell, police said.

After falling, he continued trying to escape from officers, but they were able to gain control of Johnson as he began to act irate, tensing his muscles and refusing to be placed in handcuffs, police said.

Additional units helped corral Johnson and a search revealed a red multicolored toll used for burglaries, police said. At headquarters, Johnson gave police a fake name, police said.

Johnson was charged with obstruction and two counts of burglary, police said. A warrant was also out for his arrest in Passaic County for burglary, police said.
